SS Silver Honour Tray - KC Holder

An SS silver honour tray to a Knights Cross holder. Large 13-inch diameter with a scalloped edge and engraved centre. The tray was presented to Oberscharfuhrer (staff sergeant) Hans Hirning of Totenkopf Infantry Regiment 1 - a unit which fought on the Eastern Front. He received an Iron Cross 2nd Class in October 1941, and an Iron Cross 1st Class in July 1942, and the Knights Cross in October 1942 when he was just 19. The KC was awarded for disabling a Russian anti-tank gun. He was killed in action in April 1945. The tray is in overall good condition, with some rubbing on the reverse.
