Head Fire Guard Helmet with Shrapnel Shield
A MkII helmet for a Fire Guard leader fitted with a rare shrapnel shield. White painted shell with three black bands to indicate superiority. The initials HFG (Head Fire Guard) to the front. Some age damage to paintwork. Inner shell has some rusting, with a faint 1941 date. Liner with crosspiece present along with chinstrap bales. No chinstrap. Shrapnel visor is also painted white and is spring attached. These scarce visors were developed between the wars but were unpopular with servicemen and never went into volume production. Those versions that were made were issued to Home Guard and Civil Defence units
